Hi folks, I've got one of the last Peugeots sold in the country. A
Ford/Peugeot/Alfa Romeo (boy they knew how to pick import partners) gave
it to me for $9,998. Considering it had listed for $16,500 2 weeks
earlier, I thought it was a pretty good deal.

All in all I have pretty mixed feelings about the car, I like the ride,
handling and looks, but it has been an unreliable beast. I was prepared
for some warranty work to be done as my parents had a 505 wagon, but 24
trips in three years is way excessive.

The 405 was obviously not sorted out engineering-wise at the time, and I
have continued to have problems with mine (including replacing the tie
rods at 40,000 miles!). I gave up and parked it for 2 years and drove
my parents old Civic (ironically it was a Civic that I was going to
purchase when I got the Peugeot in the first place) because it was
simply too expensive to sort out the problems.

The good news is that since it waws stored so long, it only has 45,000
miles on it. The bad news is that since it is worthless on the resale
market, I'm stuck with it until it becomes so expensive to fix that I
can justify dumping it.

Can anyone suggest a good Peugeot mechanic in the Chicago area?

I've been to Peugeot mechanics all over the country (a bad sign) and the
only two I can wholeheartedly recommend are The French Revolution in
Austin TX, and hmmm, a Citroen dealer in PA - I'll check my service
records and get back to you.

Anyway, I found the following list of authorized service centers at
