Scott (aka Puggar)
Your car sounds wonderful, and the mods should really work well. I
have two 76' 504's but I modified them differently. I put the 604 V6
into one, and am waiting to convert the other (time permitting). The
extra power is fantastic, which finally allows the car the power to
satisfy the handling and brakes. Senen was very right about the mag
wheel upgrade, the cars responses improve immensly.
I was wondering how many older Peugeots still survive "down under"? Is
rust a problem at all?
Some other suggestions you might consider is a performance exhaust. I
don't know the legal aspect of emissions in Australia, but if you can
get a custom made 2.25" exhaust w/Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, the
increase in power is very noticable, and the sound is great, deep and
powerful. Top end improves,as well as the engines ability to spin up.
to Steve in Vancouver,
I read about your problems with your ride harshness. I have the Turbo
model an it is stiffly sprung, but it is also incredibly precise. I
personally appreciate both. My 504 corners on its door handles but I
have yet to encounter a road the was too rough. It is surprising
taking a rough road in 504, then taking it in a domestic car - it makes
me smile every time. As for getting your car to ride softer, tires
will make only a small difference. I would suggest when you have to
replace shocks/struts, replace them with the standard 505 units. This
should give a softer rebound damping, making the ride less jarring. I
would call a parts place first to see if the parts are interchangable.
As for doing donuts on the snow, my cars does it on a dime. Try
turning in the direction you want to rotate, preload the brake to get
the wheels to spin, then release the brake. With practice, using
wheelspin and/or brake will determine how fast and how much you rotate.
I practice in empty mall parking lots, so I get familiar with how the
car behaves. Since your car is standard learning how to "heel and
toe" will be important. (I do it with the heel on the brake, toe on the
gas) I have to disagree with the limited slip being awful, snow is
very prominent in these parts and my cars is fantastic. I do have four
winter grips which are necessary, and also give the car amazing
traction. When your car is sliding around I would bet it's your tires
fault.
