With all due respect Don, your bad experiences with Peugeot don not mean
that Peugeots are to be written off. In your statement you have totally
ignored the fact that the rest of thwee world considers Peugeot to be in
the highest regard, in the upper echelon of manufacturers of the likes of
Mercedes BMW and Volvo. I have lived in Europe and know many people
from areas of the world with severe climates like Saudi Arabia who will
swear by Peugeot to their graves'. In any given European country,
Peugeot has perhaps the highest resale value across their line of cars,
FAR higher than any Japanese make. Even here in Canada, I I constantly
run into people who , either through personal experiences with Peugeot
or otherwise, have the utmost of respect for these cars. You can
critisize Peugeot's dealers, parts prices, marketing effort, even bad
attitude on the part of PSA but from a strictly engineering standpoint,
these cars are amongst the very best in the world. These were views
that I've held for a very long time long before I even owned a Peugeot as
I do now. My 89 405 Mi16 has nearly 200,000km (120K miles) and has
performed flawlessly. It has never broken down on me or otherwise
performed less than sterling service.
The most serious problem that I've had is a snapped gearshift linkeage
which cost all of $200 to deal with.
Nevertheless, it is not MY experience that matters, it is the cumulative
experiences of millions of happy customers out there that matter.
Just my 2 cents worth :)
