I'm not sure that pug is arrogant vs american people, but from france
we look at the US as a very conservative place not as the japanese but ... .
It is true that putting a foot in the north-american area is full of danger
and may be very hasardous. You (North amer. people) have the possibility
to be in legal proceedings against car manufacturer if you have been subject
of a major failure. The european market is not as hard as that.
Your choice criteria are a little different than the european (cruise control,
place for bottle...) ( but this currently is changing (in europe I mean).
You currently want bigger motor than in europe because of the price of
the benzine.
One thing I want to say here is that peugeot can be arrogant against
the french buyer too (try to ask something at their web site...)
especially when you try to explain to the mechanic guy what problem
you have and you want not only to remove the problem but also to
understand it.
Peugeot has a big marketing problem : when MATRA (a french company)
went to peugeot with the concept of the monospace, peugeot didn't show
any interest, matra went to renault and renault build the first monospace
in the world, you see today how big and major is this market.
I have heard that peugeot didn't want to sell 505 V6 wagon but
apparently it was the car the people want to buy (marketing error
again).
Other marketing error are 405 coupe (2doors, which has been studied
but never built (very beautiful look)) or 605 problems in the first
years with electrical connection problems.
I do not agree with the man who say that the peugeot cars have many
and many problems. The reliability of Pugs is the same of others not
more or less (Note: it seems that BMW is not a reference and is less
reliable than the others), the best reliable car I know are the mercedes diesel.
Don't think the european (and the french) are arrogant this is not true,
ok we have the best cars (middle class), the best trains, the best
planes, the best wines, the best cheeses... but you have Madonna !
