It is probably the front splines on the driveshaft, with lesser damage to the
tranny tailshaft splines, assuming you have checked the rear axles and rear
axle nuts. I know of at least 20 cases of bad front splines, one case of bad
rear splines. V6 powered cars are the worst.
A good used driveshaft is about $100; stick and auto driveshafts are
different in 86--you gotta get the right one.
