Finally got to my 505 blower motor control today. The transistor was bad
, emitter/base junction open. I was able to determine from the
base/collector junction that the transistor is a PNP. Radio Shack has a
replacement transistor. MJ2955 stock # 276-2043, $1.99. Rated at 60 volts
and 15 amps. 150 watts
The transistor/relay assy. is to the rear of the right front fender.
I cut the insulating material with a very sharp knife about 6 inches
from the fender. REmove 2 screws and out comes the whole thing.
Drill out the rivets holding the transistor to the heat sink, desolder the
leads and the transistor comes out. Remove oxide from the heat sink,
grease the transistor mounting flange insure good thermal contact and
mount with #6-32 screws using a insulating washer on the top screw to
prevent shorts. Remount the control assy.
The mounting screws were loose when removing the control assy. Bad ground
could have caused the problem.
