In a week or two I must part with my 1994 306 S16 after three wonderful years. I have just
purchased a new 406 V6, which is more to my wife's liking. It is somewhere on a ship a week
or so out of Sydney harbour.
After 75,000km, the S16 still drives like new, except for some steering rack wear and a noisy
air conditioner compressor. I considered (despite opposition from my wife) changing to
the GTI 6 - but this proposition collapsed when I drove the 406.
This is the second time I have attempted to "upgrade" - the first time, I bought a 1996 BMW 318ti, but somehow
managed not to trade in the 306 at the same time. After two months of driving the uninteresting BMW,
I sold it (at considerable loss) in favour of the 306 which was sitting faithfully in the driveway waiting for me
to learn my lesson.
Second time around, the decision is a bit easier - the 406 is a brilliant car. And it's a Peugeot - I guess
I'm hooked.
I still think I'll miss the 306 for a while at least.
