The only possible negative part is the "shocks". From everything I've
read on the list messages, the Peugeot suspension system components are
unmatched anywhere in the world, so if they used anything other than
Peugeot replacement parts, you've got second best on there.
Watch the turbo redline. Don't let it get into the red. I blew my
engine up doing that, although it was a slow process. The engine
finally gave up at 104,000 miles. Failed turbo wastegate valve led to
over compression which led to ruined pistons. Maybe do a preventive
replacement of the wastegate? Dunno -- let the techies chime in....
At 90,000 miles I had to replace the front strut assembly mounts (or
whatever they are called -- they are the rubber/metal things that the
top of the strut assembly is bolted to -- you can see them on either
side of the engine compartment -- attached by three bolts.) The car had
begun to make a loud clunking noise when I went over bumps. This was
caused by the mounts simply losing their stiffness over time.
Other stuff:
+ Electric window raising and lowering assembly crashed. (Carry
some wood braces to hold the window up until you can fix it.) Bought a
used assembly from Brian Holme. It works just fine.
+ Rear hatch struts gave out. Replaced them with Ford Aerostar
struts at $34 each. Work just fine.
+ Various window lowering/raising switches have gone bad. Easy
to replace.
+ Installed a new radiator due to core leaks in the old one.
+ Rear muffler rusted out.
That's about it. Great cars.
Hey, I'll buy it from you for $1500.....

Hi
I saw your posting in the Peugeot List Serv re. 89 turbo wagon.
I jut bought one today (Peug # 2) and would like your opininion on the
car (things to watch out for.. ) if you can spare a few minutes.
The wagon has 88,000 miles. Done within the past year: new exhaust,
brakes, shocks, belts, tune up, a fuel regulator replaced, starter,
transmission lines.
The best part: $1,000!!! The woman just wanted to get rid of it as she
was moving to Vermont from Connecticut and wanted a 4x4. Body is mint.
Faded a bit on the hood. Interior leather is very nice.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
