Sorry Tamara. Those "ears" only retract when the key is turned. You
have two choices, destroy the ignition switch, (grind off the ears) or
call a locksmith for a house call. By the way, this very same thing
happened to me, could only get the key in half way, only I was
stranded well away from home (and my tools) with only a screwdriver
and a hammer in the trunk. Ray

I need to remove the igntion key cylinder fron the steering ci=olumn of the
'85 S wagon...

went to push my key in yesterday..and it only goes in half-way, you can see
the piece of metal stopping it... the car thinks ther is always a key in
the ignition...

I have another working cylinder I removed from the parts wagon last summer....

I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT I DID TO GET THE TWO BRASS EARS TO MOVE...SO THE
CYLINDER WILL WITHDAWW FROM ITS STEERING COLUMN SLEEVE!!!!!

AHHHHHH!!!

There's some "oh, gee, that should have been obvious" thing to pusk or
twist to get thoses ears to retract......

I'd like to take it out and take it to my local locksmith wizard..it seems
to be a tumbler issue... but I don't want to have to re-key the whole car,
which is why I am not out there with my dremel grinding the brass ears
off....they are obviously part of mounting the ignition set in place...

can anyone help...?

is it some secret french phrase???

dance around the car on one foot 3 times???

I just can't remember....

going for the power tools.....

HELP!!!
