Please accept a question from a newcomer to this list:-
I have a 405SRi (89) which refuses to run smoothly! It never idles at a
constant speed: it varies between 500rpm and 1000rpm. I would describe
it as incredibly "juddery". For instance, if I am crawling along in
slow moving traffic, say 15mph in 2nd gear, the car lurches forward and
then pulls back (as if a learner was driving), and this is with
constant pressure on the accelerator.
It has had the plugs, leads, distributor, coil and fuel filter changed
in the last two weeks. I have had it tuned several times and have had
the injectors cleaned - all to no avail.
I have been told by the local main dealer (Ballamy's, Worthing, Sussex,
U.K.) that all 405's of this age are juddery, some more than others.
They also said that there is nothing that can be done. I don't believe
this. More likely it is beyond their level of competance! I previously
owned a 405GTXi of the same age which was perfectly smooth.
Any suggestions?
Unfortunately my mechanical knowledge is very bad, but I could always
pass on the information to someone who could look at the car for me.
Can anyone from the U.K. suggest a good place to go for this sort of
problem in the south of England?
Thanks in advance.
