I have an '84 505 STI automatic--much like yours. I can manage
about 20 mpg city, and I have gotten 26 mpg highway (at a steady
55 mph). Usually, I get 18-19 in town, and 24 on the highway.
My dad's SW8 gets about 20 in town, and over 25 on the highway.
My friend's '88 Turbo gets about 21 mpg in town and about 28 mpg
on the highway though once he somehow managed 31 mpg on a trip.

It seems that the non-turbo four cylinder 505s use an incredible
amount of gas for what they produce. I think it is the hyperactive
gearing that Peugeot is so fond of.
