More turbo questions

Were there any significant mechanical changes to the 505 Turbo in
1989? I worked with someone recently who owns an '89 Turbo that he
drives EVERYWHERE. It has 208k miles and other than normal 505
repairs, he had to replace the turbocharger under warranty. His
car seems so much better than my friend's '88 Turbo. The '89 feels
like it has a shorter first gear and the whole tranmission seems to
be programmed differently. His car will also nearly redline itself
when kicked-down. My friend's '88 never revs much past 4200 RPM
when kicked-down (the kickdown cable is adjusted properly).
If other '89 Turbo sedans are like this one, I may consider buying
one. Can anyone shed any light?
