the instrument panel lights require a little patience...

I am not certain of the bulb numbers, as I have scalped mine from the parts
car and not needed to purchase yet...

they are a tiny bulb(obviously) that is mounted in a black plastic base
that has a contact ear on either side and twists gently into
place...important to do the "twisting" with care, as the bulb will light
before it is truly "seated"...when it is in place correctly, it is a snug,
solid connection. 3/4 to a full turn...and cannot wiggle looose.

taking off the steering wheel is optional, I find that it is not a big deal
to remove, (with the correct extender on the ol' socket) and it does make
getting at the instrument panel a whole lot simpler.

so.. on either side(in the vertical center) of the black instrunet panel
surround, there is a small slot. If you press with a small screwdriver in
these slots and pull forward, the instrument panel slides right out.

The 2 bulbs that light the whole cluster are on the top of the unit, under
a strip of black plastic tape. Peel the tape back gently....on an '82...
this tape may be pretty shot anyway, reuse or replace as dictated by the
condition of the tape. This tape serves not only as a moisture seal, but
also to block light, so it needs to be there.

Once you've peeled the tape, you'll see the two bulbs in their wells. They
just twist out. Their contacts are small foil strips that are glued into
place. This glue also fails, so be gentle: best to apply a little pressure
to the exposed edges of the foil as you twist the bulbs in and out.

This is obviously a great time to replace any other problem bulbs, they all
work the same way. It is also nice to remove the clear dust panel on the
fron and dust out the front of the panel...This can be alittle tricky to
get back in place, but the dust on the bottm of the instrument panel on our
Texas 505 was just really annoying...

Good luck....patience and a little care will get all those little lights
working again!
