Back in 1985 I interviewed for a job at Cars & Concept in Brighton Michigan.
They at the time worked on Specialty vehicles for the big 3 and others.
During the tour of the shops I stumbled upon Peugeot 505's that were converted
to 2 door. I do think it was 2 coupes and a convertible. They were 1985 US
spec Turbo Gas Silver Gray color if I remember correctly. The story was that
Alain Clenet came up with the concept and there was some interest to develop
some prototypes. I remember the roof line of the coupe which was remeniscent
of American Ford Coupe's of the early 50's, very rounded. It was a hardtop
with no B pillar. This all happened right about the time that 505 sales
started to turn down in the US and the price would have been rather high and
so the descision was made not to go ahead with the project. I was very
excited personally about the project and was at the time very close with one
of the largest west coast Peugeot dealers. I inquired with Cars & Concepts
about seting up a private program where my dealer friends would supply the
cars and C&C would perform the conversions. I was quoted a cost at the time
of about $10,000 per car for the conversion. I still think we could have
sold some but the whole project was a bit over my head at the time. I always
wondered what became of the cars.
