Peugeot 309 which is manufactured in India is a special Indian model of
309, different from the European one. It is built for India's
conditions (like it has a special independent four wheel suspension),
most parts are made by the Premier-Peugeot of India (means it will be
much easier and less expensive to repair than any other vehicle) -- the
car was designed to be extremely reliable.
Ford's Indian joint-venture is the joint-venture of a Ford USA's thing,
with Mazda engine and all other things. It's an American Ford Escort,
the older one.
I think 309 is much better car (I am biased though).
