I found a Technical Service Bulletin (dated January 1989 one of the many
I downloaded from Alldata about a year ago) that discusses the California
/ 49 state 405 models. The only difference between California and 49
State cars are different ECU calibrations (not defined by the TSB)
The Bosch and Peuegot ECU part numbers for California and 49 state are as
follows (these are per the TSB........the Peugeot part number may have
changed since):
Bosch Peugeot
Mi16
California 0261-200-176 1929.11
49 State 0261-200-161 1929.12
405 S or DL
California 0261-200-177 1929.10
49 State 0261-200-159 1929.13
Also, California 405 cars are identified by the 8th digit of the VIN
number
If the 8th digit of VIN number is equal to:
1 or A = 405 DL 49 State
2 or B = 405 S/Mi16 49 State
3 or C = 405 DL California
4 or D = 405 S/Mi16 California
