US versus Euro MI16

I believe the Euro engine generated 160BHP due to the fact that there
was no catalytic converter on the earlier models of the MI16. A
revised engine of 2 litre size was introduced with a cat to
compensate for the drop in power. The new engine was redesigned
to provide more torque at lower revs.

Another factor that would explain the difference would be the higher
octane fuel available in Europe - 94 to 98 RON there versus 89 to 94
RON here.

One thing that has always puzzled me is the difference between BHP
expressed as DIN versus SAE. Could this also be a factor if some
conversion is required?
