505 stuff

Hello to everyone!

I was just wishing to respond to some of the last few days of mail.

First for Craig Parada (and any other 505 owner)

The front strut housings are covered (from spring perch failure do to
rust) until the car reaches the 100000 mile mark (160000 km). My car
has 140000 km and therefore qualifies. After doing much research, I
decided to reuse the fantastic 8-valve strut assemblies (turbo and sti
only). I found the best alternate option was a set of Gabriel strut
cartridges ($48 cdn ea.) The internals of the strut are NOT under
warranty. I still havent recieved my passenger side strut, so my car
sits lonely in the snow.

Gas fumes

I would bet the problem is with the evaporation canister that is hooked
up to the fuel tank. It is designed to allow the pressure losses
associated with a constantly changing pressure that occurs in a gas
tank, as well as preventing evaporation of the fuel itself at the same
time. The case where the gas tank releases air (or sucks it in)
indicates that the canister is plugged and the some of the gasses may
be escaping into the car. This devise is usually visible under the
rear parcel shelf. This same thing happened on my 504, but the
solution was putting the breather line from the tank back on to the
cannister.

Justin's friend's 86 'Turbo

After hearing all the horror stories of the 4-sp auto in these cars, I
changed the tranny filter, switched to synthetic Dextron lll, and
adjusted the kick down cable. In the Road & Track on Peugeot book, the
article said that the auto seemed to be the best combination. By the
time the tranny kicks down, the turbo is spooled and they arrive
together for a very quick departure. By the way, I think the car is
fantastic.

The rest of my projects were put on hold but only until it warms up
here. I could not use any of my time off because of other commitments,
but as soon as it warms up, I'll be able work on them outside. For now
I will just have to settle for making elaborate plans for
them......hopefully I can find the time to make them a reality!

Take care
