405 Mi16 - Keyless Entry

Just wondering if the infrared remote keyless entry system on anuone's
Mi16 still works (well)? Mine barely works, inspite of having those
stupid little battery's replaced. Someone once told me that you could
have the sensor thing inside it replaced fairly cheaply but I never got
round to exploring that possibility.
I read in the archive's that a replacement from Peugeot is something to
the tune of $189 !
Any comments/advice?? - It'd be nice to have it functioning well like it
used to.
