Just a note of thanks to all who offered advice lately concerning my wagon.
last weekend the weather in Athens, GA. was nice enough to get outside
and do some needed shade tree mechanicin' on the wagon.
With the help of some here I discovered that 2 of my vacum lines were
crossed(most likely for sometime now!) and others were very brittle.
I replaced all of them with new lines and corrected the connections.
The dist. was being supplied with NO vacum! Man did correcting this
make a difference, but not half as much as breaking out the old timing
light and setting the timing:-) It was off the scale, very retarded.
Now the car will SNAP your head as it shifts through the gears;-)!!!
I've also reconnected the oxygen sensor, which further smoothed the idle.
Now the 'ol econoscope works again:-) At least the green light is on and
not the yellow one at idle!
My advice to anyone out there having trouble with a poor running car
and or weak aceleration, check all the above systems. Especially the timing!
I recently had my dist. replaced & took for granted that the timing was
properly set!, IT WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE! This car car would have been
running properly much sooner if I'd only checked:-(
I think with Peugeots we sometimes think the problems have to be deep,
dark, mysterious and expensive while we overlook the easy stuff?
All the above problems are not hard to check. They are in fact, cheap and
easy and if you don't find the cause, you'll most likely fix a few
problems on the way:-)
Good luck and thanks to all:-)
