Re: testing cars in the USA (one again)

Gentlemen;

who cares whether Peugeot tests its cars or it doesn't? Or who cares
where does Peugeot test those things -- for all I care , they could as well
test Peugeots on Mars. No, jokes aside, I think it is perfectly normal for
Peuegot to test cars in different parts of the world. By the number of
quality complaints and disaster stories I've read through this list,
there is no doubt left in my mind that Peugeots cars produced for North America
were tested somewhere else, possibly in Africa. Assuming that North
America is a big attraction for the PSA, there is a good possibility
that their test their African cars in North America.

The way things are going now, we probably should lose all the hope of
seeing Peugeot come back. Unless a miracle would happen and Honda or
Toyota will take over Peugeot or even Volkswagen (historically... French can
do decent things if placed under strict German management) -- a
development that misfortunate PSA's shareholders would only welcome as
they lost all hope of seeing any real money (in fact because WE LOST
all hope of seing Peugeots, both things go hand in hand) and the Toyota
or Volkswagen will bring Peugeots in under their names, so unless that
happens, we should probably bid Peugeot farewell. Bye!

Now -- Lew or Brian! Can you hear me? I probably need more parts. Here
is what happened to me. I was driving my car all day yesterday -- we had
snow storm (not really, a few flakes of snow) but they call it snowstom
here because if an inch of snow falls in Rhode Island, everybody gets
very apocalyptic, all prepare to die, all mutants rush to the stores to
buy bread, milk and matches, power goes off and sick things like these
abound. Power went off at my work and at my home (it was back on home in
a few hours but my office is still cast in utter darkness) -- I suspect Peugeot
is the exclusive equipment supplier to the Narragansett Electric, our electric
company. So because I had nothing to do for some time, I went driving my
505 around, speeding on snow and ice and jumping over all sorts of
bumps. I tortured the vehicle. I know it was foolish but my car deserves
the torture (I have another recent story to tell about my Peugeout, but that
one is too embarassing). So today, I get on the highway and at over 50
miles per hour, the steering wheel starts vibrating. Really vibrating,
it is noticeable to the passenger how the steering wheel shakes. I
checked everything including the air in the tires of course -- nothing
suspicious. Steering wheel sometimes vibrates (when it wants to) on
lower speeds too but at over 50 miles per hour, it gets really scary.
You know, it is that exquisite Peugeot-only feeling of something major going to
happen (like the wheels will suddenly fall off).

What could that be? How expensive could that be?

Problem 2. I lost my gearbox for a second yesterday. Yes, I suddenly
lost all the gears -- it was like the stick was inside an empty shopping
bag. What is going on with my gearbox (Lew, will I have to import that
gearbox like those bolts?)? Can I still drive with this gearbox?

Cheers,

Eugene
