Hi Marvin
I read your mail regarding the larger engines in the Peugeot's. I was
unaware that Peugeot made the 1.8 ltr. in the late 70's. US and
Canadian cars had the 2.0 ltr's since the early 70's ( had a 74' wagon
w/2.0) The larger engine should bolt right in, as for the carbs on the
injected engine, I believe the cam specs are different for injected
engines. I would try to find out if the cam part numbers for the two
engines are the same, if yes then great, if no, then you may have to
change cams. Since I am a self confessed speed freak, and a Peugeot
owner (an odd combination indeed!), I would see if the ti cam is more
aggressive (ie: higher lift) if so, leave it in. The carbs will need
tweeking if you do this.
Suggestions for performance:
- shave (plane) the head. This increases compression
- Match port the intake and exhaust manifolds. (using gasket,
grind ports to the same dimensions.
- Install 2.25+" exhaust tubing with high performance muffler
(Dynomax)
- Install hot ingnition system (Jacobs, MSD, Accel etc.)
These simple upgrades should give you a significant increase in power.
I took the route that you mentioned in passing. I have a 76' 504 V6
sedan that I put together myself at age 17. It was (is) my first car,
and the baby of my collection. The V6 is from a 77' 604, complete with
4-sp manual transmission. I was on a tight budget back then so I
wasn't able to do the job as well as I wanted, but it still is an
incredible car. I plan to restore it/improve it over the summer. I
also have a mint 76' 504 sedan that I want to make into the Ultimate
Peugeot. This car should be worthy of magazine articles (if I can ever
spare the time).
My collection also includes: 86' 505 Turbo, 83' 504 Wagon, and two
parts cars (504 diesel sedan, 604) and always looking to get more!
If you have any question just ask.
