This discussion on dieselisation reminded me to update on what has
been going on with my 1987 505 GL wagon. It is now on the road with
an ISUZU 4FG1 diesel ( 2400 cc, 83 bhp ). This engine is a real dream
and the car really moves. I get about 13 km to a litre ( whatever
that means in mpg ), normal travelling speeds around 100 km / hr (65
mph approx.)

The engine has been coupled to a 4 speed manual, all other things
remaining the same. This engine is very light and seems to be an
ideal fit. The amount of free sape in the engine compartment has to
be seen to be believed, especially if you are used to the 2498 cc
original ( XD 3 ? ) diesel engine of the 505.
