Your power steering leak: is that from the pump itself, or the shaft
that drives the pump (the camshaft)? If it's from the camshaft, the
changing of the seal on the cam would be a fairly easy job. Use the
Haynes manual to see the procedure. It involves screwing two sheet metal
screws through the
seal and pulling it out. Just push the new one in with a socket or seal
driver.
If it 's for the pump itself, that may be a problem. Let me know which it
is,
Mike.

Thanks for the update Mike.
The oil leak seems to be coming from the seal on the camshaft, as all the
oil seems to be accumulating near the top wheel of the pump assembly. I
will read Haynes and probably tackle this job soon. It does sound pretty
easy as things go.

What have you decided to do about the exhaust manifold? Were you able to
have it welded? I am seeing a lot of owners on this list complaining
about cracked exhaust manifolds on the 405(3 anyway) . I've had trace
amounts of exhaust (enough to irritate the eyes) enter the passenger
compartment as long as I've owned the car...maybe this is my problem. I
have previous thought it was a hole in the firewall and/or broken header
pipe spring bolts. Can I remove the exhaust manifold w/out taking the
engine apart?

Have you actually removed your engine, or are you taking it out of the
car piece by piece?
