1987 505 Sti ABS normal?

My brake light and ABS light will stay lit for about 5-8 seconds after I
start my car. Is this normal? I know that it has to pump itself up but it
seams a little long. Also after having a ABS unit fitted, I have loads of
brake pad dust on my rims any ideas?
