About electric fans:
I agree with Jean Yves, electric fans are definitly the way to go.
Ever feel how much the electric clutch assembly weighs? This weight is
being supported by the water pump shaft entirely, at 6000 rpm that is
some serious loading on the bearings in the pump!
I replaced all the water pump driven fans on all my cars with
aftermarket electric fans, you can get an external rad temp sender
that triggers the fan when the rad gets too hot. The 86' Turbo took
some modifying, but I was replacing the pump at the same time anyway.
I took about 6-8 pounds off the waterpump shaft.
