Dead Mi16

I just got a call from the shop on my 89' Mi16 with the broken timing
belt, they think the head is damaged. The shop wants $300 to remove the
head and confirm this. If the head is useable the quote is $1000 total
to put everything back and the belt. If the head is shot they are
looking at around $2500 for just the head. If the piston were hit,
don't ask.
Blue book on this car is only around $2,500. I am willing to put $1,000
into it but no more. If the car is dead, is anyone interested in it for
parts? If you have any recommendations on any of this please forward.
