I bought one of those rental agency cars. An 87 Liberte I saw on a Hertz Car
Sales Lot in Philadelphia. There were three on the lot. The Hertz guy said
that they got a special deal from Peugeot for the wagons new ($14,000 in
change each) and shipped them to Orlando for families going to Disneyland.
He said there were 14 that he knew about. I got mine in 89 with 19K in
quite good condition except for the dulling of the silver paint (both Peugeot
louzy paint and Florida sunshine). The Liberte was the way Peugeot unloaded
the last of the XN6 cars while they were introducing the 2.2 cars. Mine had
fabric seats. Hertz was great. Gave me a one year warranty which I really
did not need since it was still under warranty. I checked carefully with
Peugeot to see if their warranty was voided since it was in commercial
service. It was still warranted. Also, Hertz fixed everything on my punch
list at time of purchase without a peep. Cost me $9,000. A good deal and it
lasted me until 1994 when I got an 89 Turbo SW which I think is light years
ahead of the Liberte. Hope this fills some of the gaps. By the way, Hertz
shipped moret than seven of those cars to Philadelphia for resale since they
heard it was a Peugeot hangout. They were having a hell of a time selling
them in Orlando.
