Re your comments regarding chrome trim, I too have a 505 SW (89 TURBO) and
spent a weekend removing all chrome appearance. I used black out tape found
in the auto store section where the striping tape is. Bought a lot in
varying widths. I blacked out the chrome stripe along the side rubber
moldings. roof drip mouldings, all window chrome including windshield and
rear cargo window, chrome ring on front bumper and cargo door lift/license
plate illuminator). I also painted the "505" and "TURBO" plaques on the rear
door flat black. I also painted the grill black except for the lion. I also
installed amber bulbs in the headlight assembly side lights--looks great. I
also spray painted the rear view mirror assemblies, the door opener black
assemblies (covered over the chrome) and all the original black door trim.
All that fades badly. I also darkened the windows rear of the front doors
(state law prohibits darkening those). My car is Anthracite Gray and looks
terrific blacked out.
If you want to do the black out....tips: clean all surfaces with denatured
alcohol. Make sure that there are no specs of any kind, They will dimple
the tape. Apply from rear forward so that overlaps are facing rearward (to
keep wind or car washes from lifting edges). Overlap about 1/4 in. Use the
sharpest blades you can find (art store kind with point best) Replace blades
often. Would be happy to answer questions.
