I have been inactive on the list for the last few months, but I always
read all the mail. The latest discussion about the treatment of
Peugeots, pros and cons, has caught my attention.
I am a firm believer in Peugeots being a high performance machine.
When you look at the stats, they are very impressive cars indeed. ie:
504/5 - four wheel discs (10.8" no less), fully independant suspension,
rack and pinion steering, and the most comfortable seats anywhere. I
could go on, but you get my point.
The standard models aren't going to win any drag races, but taken out
on the highway these cars begin to shine. I regularly shift at 4000
rpm, when driving hard I shift at 6000. The little 4 cyl are a bit
wheezy with a standard exhaust, but put a custom unit on it, and it has
a nasty little growl. My only failure was due to my ignorance (who
knew heads had to be retorked so frequently).
My 86' Turbo lived the life of a pampered luxury car (in its previous
life), and spent most of its life in the shop. I drive this car very
hard, but I have very good maintenace habits. This car has not given
me any engine related problems whatsoever. The Gods however decided
otherwise, thus dead trees fell on it.
If you don't drive your Peugeot hard, you are missing one of the great
pleasures in life. These cars are amazing.....driving other cars
proves that every day for me.
Drive safe!
