Actually, I'd have to agree with you, I got that "405 replaced the 305"
comment from a review of the 405 back in 1988. If anything, the 405
replaced the 505 (at least in europe) especially with the estate version
of the 405 which really did well, especially here in GB where it was
sold right up until a couple of months ago; I see '97 "P" 405 wagons
around all the time.

Again, most true, how they came out with the 305 simutaneously to the
205 I have no idea. I think the 305 must have been fairly reliable
though because I've never heard anyone putting it down. Even though the
thing makes the Lada Samara look nice in comparison.
