I do not think I would try and install a used 405 sunroof in a 405 that
did not have it originally. Too many parts, and unless you removed it
from the salvage car, I think it would be tricky to re-install,
particularly if someone was not familiar with the Peugeot sunroof.

I would however, attempt the installation of a good, simple manual
sunroof. They used to have them here in the States where the glass flips
up from the rear, and can be removed altogether quickly and easily. I
don't know what the structural impact on the 405 roof would be, although
I am pretty sure the 405 sunroof was originally engineered into the car,
because it is relatively complex, and I would bet all 405's can handle
the structural impact of a sunroof.

As for leaks, consult your installer for his advice. My car has four
drain holes in the sunroof tray (which supports the sunroof assembly),
that lead to drain hoses running down the front/rear pillars of the roof.
It's pretty important that you blow those hoses out once in a while to
clean out the drain holes. clogged drain holes will force rain water into
the cabin.

BTW, I recently replaced the sunroof cables on my car and it made all the
differnece in the world. rain water had rusted the original cables and
they were binding badly. The project required a close read of the repair
manual (thanks Ned Bagno), but was a very satisfying do it yourself
project lasting 1.5 hours. I would help anyone with the project and will
try and write it up for the archives when I have time.

p.s. I Just got a new paint job...BRITISH RACING GREEN (no flames please
your purists) and it looks great. My car was black, and they had to strip
roof and trunk due to the cracked orig paint. It cost me US$1,300 (Approx
$400 was body work) and I am very pleased with results. I used Maaco,
which is a chain of auto paint centers in the U.S.
