Hi Ray,
Do you have the instructions on how to diagnose the check engine light on
both 405's (XU9J2 (405 DL) and XU9J4 (Mi16)) w/out the factory TAD
tester? I think these instructions may be available from Jim Lill's site.
and if not email me back , and I 'll fax you the XU9J4 instructions
(which are for the 1989 engine, and may not be exactly the same for the
'91 engine...but might be close enough) diagnosing the check engine light
involves making a simple switch (using a momentary push button) and
attaching it to the diagnostic plug on the left side of the engine bay
(with long wire leads). You then switch on/off, and count the number of
check engine flashes. You match the number of flashes to the diagram to
diagnose your problem....which more often than not is a faulty sensor
(maybe 1 of the 2 water temp sensors in your Mi16).
