Rick,
When my 505 did that noise it was the large rubber bushings in the =
front of the diagonal lower control arms. Diagnosis is simple.
See if the front tires move when you apply the brakes the first time =
after changing direction.
ie have an assistant creep the car in one direction and apply the brakes
then back up and apply the brakes. You should see fore and aft =
movement of the tire.
Good luck
George

Subject: Brakes Clunking

Here's the problem. After installing new brake pads, if I am travelling =
in one direction, slow to an absolute crawl and shift into the opposite =
direction, then apply the brakes I hear a 'clunk' as if the brake pads =
are shifting in their calipers! If I keep the brakes applied while =
shifting, I do not hear the clunk (I'm supposing because the pads are =
not free to move around). Anyone else experiencing this phenomenon? I =
am fairly certain I am installing the brakes correctly.=20

Yeah, I know (as the old saying goes): "then stop shifting without the =
brakes applied". But it just mystifies me!

Rick.
