Just an update for those 405 owners with high mileage cars. As you may
recall my 405 has been plagued with poor performance for the last 6
months. My car is just approaching 140,000miles.

I had replaced the car's catalytic convertor last summer and that helped
alot but not completely so, I replaced the plugs and that helped
somewhat but not enough, then I replaced the Oxy sensor and that made a
big difference but the uphill acceleration was still noticable absent.

I took the car to my dealer's mechanic and had it checked out, the tech
said it meet spec and that perhaps the problem was the Midas Cat, and
lack of the pre-baffle muffler that midas had removed and neglected to
replace. So I order a new exhaust system from Stebro ( which due to
the UPS strike is still on order) I also cleaned my air filter and
ordered a new air filter from K&N (the 405 air filter comes from England
and because of the August holiday it's on backorder too)

Meanwhile I decided it was time to get the new sparkplug wires we'd
discussed on the list and BINGO. The car's idle smoothed out and the
uphill acceleration is remarkably better. Yea!

So my suggestion to anyone who has over 100,000 miles on the original
wires is to consider replacing them and let us know how it affects your
cars performance. The wires run around $80 US.

For me it's the best $80 I've spent on this car in a long time.

The car still has it's little problems, but over all it's looking good
now and I'm optimistic that it'll drive and run well to my target of
250,000 miles.

Please let me know if you have similar results.
