I think the engine is relying on the hydrocarbons in the blowby, which are
fed into the air intake via the breather hose, until you pull the oil filler
cap, releasing the pressure. Does it puff quite a bit out the oilfill hole?
Does the dipstick push up? Does it look and smell oily under the hood? I
had one that did that. It had four broken pistons.
