A new rack assembly is around $1300, but I would be suspicious of this
diagnosis. In my experience, most shimmies originate in the rotating masses
(tire, wheel, hub, rotor), but may be amplified by looseness in steering or
suspension. If someone thinks it is the rack, it is probably the inner
tierod ends. But if it is the rack, it is probably best to swap it out.
But, as Bob Bruce says, you do need to identify the car. V6s have a
different rack.
