Tamara. I'm a bit confused about the Fuel Injection Testing Equipment
you mention. The only real pain for test equipment would be the fuel
system pressure guage. Most parts stores sell a generic version for
around $60.00. These typically come with a "Schrader" valve
connector. Unfortunately will not work on the Pug. If you are
somewhat resourceful, you could locate a "T" connector to put in the
fuel line, then adapt it to the fuel guage.
This is all ahead of the game though. Fuel system pressure should be
one of the last things to check. The motto of all good Automotive
Technicians is to go simple first.
Your symptoms provide the key to the problem. It runs fine at cold
start, then developes problems. Look at the cold start injector. The
easiest thing would be to disconnect the thing for a test. I may
prove hard to start at first, but if it runs fine after warm up, you
have found your problem. Perhaps the signal to disable the injector
is not present. I cannot lead you through the troubleshooting
procedure as I don't have my books with me. I'll try and remember to
bring them in on Monday.
Do not just start changing out relays. Not only is it expensive, but
you can easily cause additional problems doing this. I would
recommend you get ahold of a reasonably priced Digital Multimeter. I
personally own a Fluke Model 77. Cost about 60.00. A few discreet
resistance checks followed by voltage checks at the relays would
reveal any non functioning parts.
A final note, when it runs poorly, connect a vacuum guage (about 10.00
at any parts store) to the manifold vacuum port. Note the reading at
idle. If it is not about 20-22 inches, you may have a mechanical
problem.

yup, its the car whose previous owner should be cited for Peugeot abuse...
the symptoms-
last friday, we had spent the day doing errands, ran about 70 miles up the
coast, no symptoms...
On the way home, the car seemd to commence running on 3 cylinders...neede
gas pedal floored to creep up even a small hill...
we got it home. The next morning (and every time started from completely
cold since)
it starts up, and runs fine....for about 10 minutes...as it warms up, it
commences to run rough, and will stall itself out after running that way
for a few minutes....
I am seeking a source for the testing equipment outlined in the Bosch Fuel
injection manual...
We need to purchase a set of testing equipment...we have a spark plug
pressure guage and a cute little testing light..we need to test electrical
connections, conductivity rates et. al.
any ideas on sourcing?
we cannot just start replacing relays, to see if it helps....(well... maybe
we could..)
on the other hand, if this is clearly a problem experienced by anyone, and
you know the solution.....
I personally have no problem with "fix NOW, understand LATER"
I don't have nearly as much space for my camera eqipment in the '82 sedan
I have to drive instead...
sigh.
