The early 80's Peugeots I've seen in this area are rusting at the base of
the front and rear windshield pillars (hey - this isn't even Rochester
NY!); all have faded paint (mine too). I've very rarely seen a 405 of
any year, or a 505 newer than late 80's.
In Sunday's Portland paper there are 3 for sale:
1983 505S, 125k leather seats, good condition, $950
1985 Wagon, good running order, $1200
1988 505 Turbo, 1k on rebuilt engine, $6k in restoration, divorce
encourages sale, $3500/offer
Typically there are 0-2 advertised weekly, sometimes as many as 4.
That 1988 sounds like a good possibility if one waits a few weeks/months
and offers $2000 - $2500. Many times people put $ into the car,
especially after not being satisfied with available repair facilities,
and wonder "what's next" so are desperate to unload it (I got mine that
way after the prior owner was without it for 6 months while finding some
to diagnose it and replace the ECU; they barely recovered their repair
cost).
I just got back from Eugene, Oregon. Although 10pm when I left, I swung
by Eurocar on the way out of town - must have been at least 2 dozen Pugs
in his yard, with 5 or 6 in front with for sale signs in them. The for
sale ones looked to be mid 80's 505s, two 405s, one a wagon. It was dark
so I couldn't see much. Other cars were mostly 505s, but quite a few
504s. Don't know what he's asking, but I stop by next time I'm there in
the daytime.
[I've been wanting to check Eurocar out since my pug is in Eugene almost
as much as Portland. In case the kids got stranded;one daughter goes to
school there. Both daughters, since the newness and image of the Acura
Legend has worn off, have gravitated to the Peugeot as the more
comfortable car to drive. Stranded? Have someone else do the repairs so
that I don't have to go to Eugene? The reason I went to Eugene today (in
the Peugeot of course) was to replace the starter in the Ford Van.]
