Ray,

While you are an educated consumer, the same thing can't be said about
everyone in this country. I do not have any statistics on this, so I can't
generalize by saying what percentage of the population uses critical
thinking when buying a car. However, by looking around me I would estimate
that 60-70% of us are influenced by these commercials. This hypothesis
seems to be supported by the ever growing amount of $$ involved in car
advertising: if it wouldn't work that money would go elsewhere.

I remember once asking a "mechanic" who was changing the engine oil in his
car: "Why do you use Pennzoil ?". His answer: "It's liquid bearings man,
didn't you know ?".
