Glen,

If the fans aren't kicking in at 92C then the problem lies in the
temperature sending unit. You must be very familiar with the thread
concerning this (I just went through this recently and their were
several good posts relating to it) (which I'll forward to you.)
However, what strikes me as odd is the fact your engine runs so hot when
you're driving on open roads. Mine usually sits around 70 to 75C and
never hotter. You may be having troubles with your thermostat.

I would definitely not let the car run at 100C for too long, I shudder
at the consequences.
