Phillip,
the fan speed control (at least on Mi16 405) is built into the fan motor. In
other words, if your fan motor was just replaced, it is defective. The fan
speed control amplifier is integral with the blower motor and there should be
nothing wrong with your dash control. Does the 405 Dl have the "many stop
position" blower speed control switch? If so, it is identical to the Mi16. I
believe that there is only one flavor of climate control in 405s of our
vintage; so yours should be just like my Mi16's. Good luck.
On a side note, I just came in from an invigorating city/highway jaunbt in the
fine city of Nashua, NH, and I must say, my Mi16 is running very well in the
current weather conditions. The air density must be fairly heavy here today,
as it is running more like a turbocharged engine today. I had a little run for
fun on the highway after many drag races between traffic lights in the city,
and the car went from 70-105 MPH in such short time I was amazed. It's tough
to come back into work after such a fun drive at lunchtime.
