The side W/O the ribs goes against the valve cover I glue it in place with
some weather
strip adhesive or contact cement then put a thin film of grease on the
ribed side before
I put it on the engine.
I hope you have replaced the 4 spark plug tube seals and the 2 valve cover
bolt
seals, I find they don't last as long as the valve cover gasket.
