Don't have a real good idea here, but maybe a clogged Cat or a bad
ignition coil...both will occur on an '89 405

When my STOP light comes one It is often accompanied by the clicking you
describe
figure out why the STOP light is coming on.

You need to learn to diagnose the check engine light using a $2 switch
and 6 feet of wire.
email my off-line and I'll send instructions.

What's odd about all of this is that a) I didn't have the

heater blower failure is pretty common on these cars. the blower comes
out as one piece behind the glove box. The circuitry attached to the fan
blower is probably shot.
Find a replacement in a junk yard if you can. BTW, the blowers are all
date stamped on the housing, and I think many were replaced under
warranty by dealers I pulled one out of a junked 405, and the blower was
made in late 1990, while the car was an '89

You may be having the climate control ECU/blend door motor problems which
are common to the 405's. It also sound like you have a disconnected
linkage behind the temp and vent dials...I might look there.
