The heater going cold intermittently can be a sign of low coolant, or
[shudder] a bad headgasket or cracked head, although those are rare on the
zdjl. Do you get gurgling noises in the heater while driving?
The climate control system may be shutting off the water circulation
arbitrarily by shutting off the electrovalve in the heater inlet hose.
Various posibble causes there, I guess, including that dash sensor.
Maybe the cold start injector?
