Do you have amperage specs for those 20sec plugs (79-81) and the 7sec plugs
(82-on)? The fastest plugs clearly draw more amps, because they are cherry
red in 5 seconds, and my concern is about the 20sec box being able to
handle that much current for a useful service life.
BTW, both Peugeot and Bosch have dropped the 20sec glowplug (5961.58, 0 250
200 056), so this question has some immediate relevance to owners of 79-81
diesels.
Peugeot says just use the 7sec plugs with a new 7sec controller, for a
total cost of $222, plus the dealer's choice of markup.
My prices are better, and I have a few sets of non-Bosch 20-sec glowplugs
for less, as well as used ones, but glowplugs are not as cheap and easy as
they used to be.

them self limiting. The graph shows current staring at 22 amps dropping
asymptotically to 10 amps in 20 sec and temp starting at 0C and going
asymptotically to 1100C. Conclusion, they will not burn up if left on. It
may however shorten their life.
