According to the literature I have, the Bagheera/Murena sports
cars were sold under the Talbot-Matra name. The car was built
by Matra, a company best known for making trucks. Talbot was
founded in London in 1903. After World War 1, Talbot (and
Sunbeam) was taken over by the French company Darracq
forming STD - the Sunbeam-Talbot-Darracq group.
This began a confusing period in which sports cars were
produced on both sides of the Channel and entered in competitions
under any one of the three marques. By 1920, The cars went
under the name Talbot-Darracq. In 1959, the company was saved
from the brink when it was taken over by Simca. During the 1960's,
Chrysler aquired both Simca in France and the Roots group in
Britain. In 1978, Chrysler sold off it's entire European operations
to Peugeot. From the ashes of Roots/Simca, Peugeot resurrected
the Talbot marque. Talbot survived until the end of the 1980's, with
cars being built in France and at the old Roots factory in Ryton,
England. Today the Ryton factory now makes the Peugeot 206.
That's all for todays history lesson. I hope you were taking notes,
there will be a quiz at the end of class.
