I was somewhat holding my tongue, but I have to step in! :)
I know the Volvos pretty well. I've owned one, and drove many.
The 240 is boring, the 740 is ugly, and none handle anywhere
close to the 505. I've yet to drive my 505 turbo, but I've driven
the V6, and it's more fun than a 740 turbo (both auto). The A 5000
is ten times more problems than the peugeot, is rough handling,
has terrible seats (like most german cars), and doesn't look
much. A Quattro coupe is another thing.
As for the Jetta, it does not even touch the plain 405,
so no contest on the mi16. Better handling, comfort, seats, brakes,
and looks than the jetta gli.
Alfa 164 3L is a notch above the 405mi16, but is a little
harscher on the drive. Also if you think a pug is complex...
