Peugeot look-alikes but not run-alikes

I think the 505s were and are cars without much company as far as body
and styling go. The words that come to mind when i see a nice looking
505 sedan are: stately, elegant, simple. having driven a lot of European
sedans, I still think that the 505 (whatever the engine type/model)
offered the best combination of price, performance and driveability
(including comfort, handling and safety) for the period during which
they were manufactured. As far as reliability and durability go, I
honestly believe Peugeots for the most part last longer and run with
fewer troubles than most comparable European imports of similar vintage.

The one car the the 505 does remind me of is the Fiat 127 (or maybe 128)
which was a little smaller, but had the same rectangular, boxy but
charming appeal.

The 405, on the other hand looks like a lot of other cars -- or rather,
a lot of other cars look like the 405. But i think that's where the
similarities end. I once drove a friend's G20. engine was great
sounding and running, but I would'nt want to drive it daily or long
distances: too much like a high powered Sentra, both in character and
ride/handling (BTW, the Nissan Sentra SE-R also has a smooth powerful
DOHC engine).
