74s were the first US diesel Peugeots. Most had a small radiator which
allowed use of the temp gauge as an inclinometer, and "X" pistons with a
very thin headgasket which held up poorly. Otherwise they were great cars,
the only diesels with pushbutton doorhandles. Most of the X pistons have
been replaced by now with "R" pistons. They do need the big radiator, though.

Body integrity is probably the key factor in the value of a 504--they rust
underneath when exposed to salty water, and can become quickly uneconomical
to restore.
